Today I flash back to my favorite professional development–National Writing Project. I participated several times over my teaching career, and learned more about teaching there than anywhere else. Yes, it focused mostly on writing, but good writing practice is good teaching practice.
Unfortunately, our local chapter–like everything else in education–is suffering funding issues. The wonderful Summer Invitational Institutes are history. The picture above is from that final day of that final on-site institute. I have lasting memories from those days together with some of the most dynamic educators I know.
Coincidentally, today I am wearing the same color as these gorgeous t-shirts. I wear it today in loving tribute to all my writing teacher friends. We may be threatened by the lawnmower, but we dandelions will continue to spread the seeds of good writing practice far and wide.
