In a little while I am heading out to my mandolin lesson. I am working on “Wildwood Flower” by the Carter Family. It’s made up of what is called “double-stops,” a thing that can be tough to master.
The Carters, along with Jimmie Rodgers, make up the roots of American music. Last night Roseanne Cash–daughter of Johnny and stepdaughter or June Carter Cash–won Grammy Awards in Roots and Americana categories for an album wholly inspired by the past and the progression of American music. I was thrilled, as it is one of my favorite albums of all time, and speaks to me on many different levels.
Congratulations, Roseanne. I hope this award will help increase appreciation for your wonderful music.
